The art in the workspace
When a chan workspace has a single pane and no open tabs, an animation fills the empty space. Open a tab or split the pane and it gives way to your work.
These animations draw on sketches, shaders, and artwork shared by the people credited below. We adapt their geometry and motion to chan's canvas, colors, and pace. The original work is linked beside every animation.
Enable JavaScript to try the live animations. All credits and original references are listed below.

Inspired by A. L. Crego's Soothe. The motion was reconstructed from the video.

The workspace waits two seconds before showing an animation, so it does not flash while a new tab opens. With the empty pane focused, use the left and right arrow keys to browse, ? to pick another at random, and the up and down arrow keys to change the speed.
The previews here use the same animation components as chan. Only one runs at a time, and animations stop drawing when they are out of view. If your device asks for reduced motion, they show a still frame.
The separate Matrix Rain screensaver is adapted from dcragusa's MatrixScreensaver. Its MIT license notice ships with chan.
